A Must Have Collection of Munsch Stories

June 21, 2011

Munsch Mini-Treasury Two
written by Robert Munsch, illustrated by Michael Martchenko
Annick Press, 2010

5 picture books in one volume is a great deal, and even better because they are Munch stories – my favorite.

If I had to choose a favorite of these five, I’d say, Stephanie’s Ponytail because it’s all about fitting in, feeling okay with yourself, and thinking independently. Even though Stephanie’s classmates make fun of her unique hairstyles, the next day, they copy her. Stephanie continues to think for herself and her classmates never learn — as you’ll see with this surprising ending!

The other stories are:

The Fire Station – a hilarious adventure tale about two friends, Michael and Sheila; Sheila, being the dare-devil of the pair!

I Have to Go! – all parents will relate to this book as the child in this story refuses to go pee until they’re in the car, or he’s in his snowsuit. The ending is a delightful surprise, I won’t spoil it by telling you what happens – you’ll love it though.

Moira’s Birthday – in this tale of a birthday party with too many invited guests, you’ll see what craziness happens and hope it’s a good lesson for your child.

Thomas’ Snowsuit – Thomas refuses to wear his snowsuit and you’ll find that his teacher and the principal go to great lengths to get Thomas to wear it. Funny!

Book Play: Visit Munch’s website and listen to him read his stories. Do an author study of Munsch stories. Read and compare.

It does explain why they attacked the humans of Sera and what the
deal with the Lambent is. Soon after that, you can find a wooden box that you can break to find the Bayonet.
Of course, we all know the ending of that story, but what
most people don’t know is that David ran towards Goliath.
