Do You Know Which Ones Will Grow

Do You Know Which Ones Will Grow?

written by Susan A. Shea, paintings by Tom Slaughter
Blue Apple Books, 2011
non-fiction picture book

Beautiful paintings, rhyming, lift the flap, cut-out fun . . . Do You Know Which Ones Will Grow has everything you want in a picture book.

The idea is simple. Do you know if a little something can grow into a big something? So,

If a duckling grows
and becomes a duck,
can a car grow
and become . . .
a truck?

Isn’t that cute? And, the rhyming works – my personal pet peeve when it doesn’t.

It ends with . . .

Yes to cows,
Yes to snakes,
No to plows,
No to cakes.

You’ll love the bright illustrations mixed with black and white images with colored text. This is one of the best non-fiction picture books I’ve ever read, it makes kids think by asking lots of questions. We love it at our house!

Book Play: Take a nature walk and find things that grow and things that don’t grow. Make a list or a book of what you find.
