My Name is Not Isabella
Just How Big Can a Little Girl Dream?
written by Jennifer Fosberry, illustrated by Mike Litwin

Historical, inspirational, 100% fantastic best describe this colorful new picture book.

Today, Isabella’s not Isabella because she make-believes she’s heroic women — astronaut Sally, sharpshooter Annie, activist Rosa, scientist Marie, doctor Elizabeth, and the sweetest Mommy. Then, she falls asleep as Isabella, the “sweetest, kindest, smartest, bravest, fastest, toughest, greatest girl that ever was.”

What a fantastic way to show strong female role models, each of whom is pictured and explained in the last pages. I love the author’s note for writing this book; it captures her intention, “I would like to thank all the women who strived to make changes in the world and allowed me so many opportunities.”

Book Play: Print out these Isabella Dream Cards and fill in your own dreams. Dress up and make-believe you’re someone in the story. Who will you be?
