Remember the classic nursery rhyme song, Three Little Kittens? There’s crying and no pie.

Well, in this newest retelling, there’s playfulness, purring, and a happy ending!

It’s autumn when these kittens romp and play. Each page showcases the amazing artistic talent of Pinkney, winner of the Caldecott Medal for his book, The Lion & the Mouse (2009).

I love the repetition of the purr, purr, purr and the meow, meow, meow. It adds much to the original rhyme, making it richer.

All ends well as the kittens find their mittens, eat the pie, and wash their mittens before returning outside to play.

Book Play: Pretend play kitties. (This is my daughter and her friend’s favorite activity.) Meow, crawl, and frolic. If you need more to do, try to eat dry cereal from a cat bowl. Put a leash on your belt loop (NOT neck) and have one person be the “owner”. Play with yarn or balls with bells in them. Meow!

WIN a copy of Three Little Kittens. E-mail your name and address (to make book delivery faster) to deborah.mock@parenthood.com with “3 Kittens” in the subject line. We will randomly select one lucky winner to receive a copy of the book. Deadline for entry is midnight MST on November 28, 2010.
