Field Guide on Insects of the Cloud Forest

August 12, 2010

The Field Guide to Insects
written by Paul Beck
Silver Dolphin, 2010
non-fiction

I LOVE this book — and so do my kids! It’s written as if it were the actual science notebook of a scientist adventuring in the cloud forest of Central America. The tone of the notes are conversational, which makes it both easy and educational read. Each page includes factual information, sketches, maps and more from which to learn

But, coolest part is the punch-out, make your own insects. You can make eight insects such as a blue Morpho butterfly, a Hercules beetles, and a walking stick insect .  They’re sturdy and come with a punch-out background for display. (Ours is on our mantle.)

If you like this book, you might also like The Field Guide to Rainforest Animals or The Field Guide to Safari Animals.
