The Quiet Book

The Quiet Book

Picture Book

The illustrations in muted colors set the ambiance of quiet. I’m a quiet person.  I like quiet and appreciate the kinds of quiet in this book and the beauty of these pencil drawings.

As a teacher, I will use this book to teach writing – because it “shows” a scene of quiet (as opposed to the dreaded “tells”).  Can you see these scenes?

“Hide-and-seek quiet”

“First snowfall quiet”

“First one awake quiet”

We all need quiet — even kids.

Book Play: Create a time of quiet play every day. This could involve books, puzzles, a walk, drawing a picture or room time. Name the kind of quiet for extra fun — “puzzle-making quiet” or “reading a book quiet.”  Then, make your own Quiet Book with your own kind of quiet.

WIN a copy of The Quiet Book! E-mail your name to deborah.mock@parenthood.com with “The Quiet Book” in the subject line. We will randomly select one lucky winner to receive a copy of the book. Deadline for entry is midnight MST on May 25, 2010.
