Cinco de Mouse-O tells the story of a Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) celebration from a Mouse’s perspective.

Our hero, Mouse, sniffs out a delicious fiesta – a Cinco de Mayo festival at the park. Unfortunately, Cat sniffs out our Mouse and stalks him  to the park. Ay, caramba!
At the park, Mouse immediately wants a treat a piñata but he’s soon he’s distracted by the crumbs of tamales, tacos and flan.  Suddenly, stamp, stomp — the folklorico dancers alert Mouse and he zigzags away just as Cat’s grasping paws pounce.

We hear the trumpets of mariachis and the boom of fireworks, see the bright paper flowers and sombreros and taste the choizo and delicioso treats that accompany a Cinco de Mayo celebration.

I love the flavors of Mexico in this book, the subtle drama between the cat and mouse and the illustrations in bold colors from Mouse’s perspective. This book isn’t just for May — it’s a year-long delight.

Book Play: Learn how to count in Spanish. Make your own Cinco de Mayo celebration! Cut out a colorful paper banner, cook tacos, play mariachi music and break a piñata.
